Content and context in evolutionary biology: A tale of two study systems
Abstract: As scientists, we often have very influential relationships with our study systems. We find species, places, and questions that speak to us, and we invest immense curiosity and effort in getting to know these systems. In the years - or decades – we spend studying a particular system, our own lives also unfold. My career thus far has revolved around two very different study systems. One focuses on speciation in desert lizards and one focuses on extinction in montane amphibians. In this talk, I will discuss some of the research approaches and results that keep me fired up about science (the content). I will also share some of my own career journey and how I view our role as scientists (the context).
