Congratulations to Professor Don Pfister, Danny Haelewaters (PhD '18), and Liam F. Nokes, former high school researcher in the Pfister lab, awarded Honorable Mention by the New England Botanical Society (NEBS) Fernald Award Committee awarded Honorable Mention for their study published in Rhodora Journal.
The committee acknowledged the study, "Exploration of marine lichenized fungi as bioindicators of coastal ocean pollution in the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation areas," as providing "potentially important information on the use of marine lichens as indicator species" and referred to the lead author, Liam F. Nokes', work saying "the quality of the field work, as well as the later analysis, reflects a level of maturity of the principal author not typically expected in a researcher of high school age.
