Hopi Hoekstra named next Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences

OEB is pleased to announce that Professor Hopi Hoekstra will become the next Edgerley Family Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

Hoekstra is currently the C.Y. Chan Professor of Arts and Sciences, Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (OEB) and Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Alexander Agassiz Professor of Zoology in the Museum of Comparative Zoology where she also serves as Curator of Mammals. She is also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator and a longtime member of the Broad Institute.

Since joining OEB in 2007, Hoekstra has continued to expand her innovative research while receiving many distinguished awards including the Lowell Thomas Award, appointed Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the C. Hart Merriam Award from the American Academy of Mammalogists.

She will become dean on Aug. 1, succeeding Claudine Gay, who will become Harvard’s 30th president on July 1.
